DENSO is protecting the Earth
Since our founding in 1949, DENSO has long considered the needs of
the environment in developing its operations. DENSO set even higher
standards in a plan called, DENSO EcoVision 2005. The following are
four action guidelines in the plan. |
| |
Strengthening Environmental Management
The DENSO group companies have environmental committees, which are
incorporated into the global DENSO Environmental Committee
organization. They share the basic policy/action guidelines and work
on environmental issues in each region. Formed in 1992, the Environmental
Committee has spearheaded many environmental initiatives including
ISO 14001 certification. Of all the 67 group locations, 60 have received
confirmation of compliance with ISO 14001. Nowadays, ISO 14001 certification
is the benchmark for environmentally committed companies. |

Environmentally Friendly Development and Design
How can we reduce environmental loads imposed by automobiles? DENSO
develops technologies for purifying exhaust gas from engines and control
systems to enable highly efficient fuel consumption. DENSO also develops
high performance recyclable-material products. Followings are examples
of technologies and products DENSO developed in 2001 : |
 |
|
High-pressure injection technology for common
rail type diesel fuel injection systems. This technology has
enabled us to attain the exhaust gas control standard, beyond
that of the current control standard in Europe. |
 |
|
Belt-driven integrated starter generator (ISG)
for hybrid vehicles. This is the first generator in the world
that integrates starting and charging devices. |
 |
|
Car air conditioner using natural coolant (CO2)
that has a minimal global warming effect. The unit was mounted
on Toyota Motor Corporations fuel cell hybrid vehicle
FCHV-4 for demonstration and testing on public roads
to study commercialization feasibility. |
|
| |
| Clean factories through reduced environmental
load |
| |
| DENSO properly identifies input of resources and
output of products and waste associated with the manufacturing process.
We take comprehensive and effective measures to reduce environmental
loads. |
 |
|
DENSO has attained zero landfill waste (less
than 1 percent compared with FY 1999) at all 14 locations in
Japan. Currently, we are studying the feasibility of reducing
landfill waste at all our overseas group companies. |
 |
|
In regards to energy use, we are committed
to attaining a 10 percent reduction in FY 2010, which is beyond
the reduction target (7 percent compared with1990) set by the
Japan Auto Parts Industries Association. Including business
growth, this figure is equivalent to a reduction of 40 percent.
We are committed to the development of
high-level, energy saving technology under the concept of realization
of minimal energy loss at factories. |
|
| |
Promotion of environment-related external links
and dissemination of information
The welfare for handicapped persons, fostering of
young people, and environmental conservation, are
top priorities for social contribution at DENSO. |
 |
|
In 2001, we launched Eco Ranger 21
with an NPO. This environmental education program is designed
to educate young people about the importance of protecting the
environment. Elementary school students in the Aichi Prefecture
enhance their understanding of the significance of environmental
conservation through the natural environment in the local area
through programs with DENSO. |
