DENSO, which launched its first navigation system in 1987, is one of the few companies in the world that develops car navigation systems and supplies them toautomakers worldwide. DaimlerChrysler, Jaguar, General Motors, Toyota and Ford all buy navigation systems from DENSO for factory installation.

DENSO provides navigation systems with advanced functions such as the industry’s fastest map scrolling and route searching, three-dimensional displays, built-in Web browser, and voice recognition function available for a number of languages. It also provides navigation systems with minimum functions to meet a variety of user needs.

Exhibits are a worldwide car navigation system applicable to many languages, and an entry level car navigation system developed with minimum functions at low cost.

Worldwide Car Navigation System:
DENSO provides worldwide car navigation systems:
  For each country by setting DVD discs storing map data, and software corresponding to each country;
  With a voice guidance function selectable from eleven languages including Japanese, British English, American English, Spanish, German, French, Spanish, and Chinese; and
  With automatic operation using voice recognition selectable from three languages, Japanese, British English, and American English.

Entry Level Car Navigation System:
DENSO’s entry level car navigation system has the following features of:
  Easy operation with a simple design of operational keys and touch switches;
  Lowered price by adopting a compact disc for map data and making a TV tuner optional; and
  Pinpoint retrieval using Mapcode, a location code DENSO devised in 1997 (see Mapcode information in this press kit).

DENSO also developed NAVISTANT, a product that enables handheld Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) to be used as car navigation systems. The NAVISTANT package, released in April 2002, includes a sensor unit, global positioning system (GPS), antenna and software.

Car navigation systems will play an increasingly important role as multipurpose information terminals in vehicles as they melt with entertainment, ETC, Mayday capabilities, mobile telephone and other new functions. DENSO aims to create such multifunctional car navigation by integrating a range of its technologies and expertise in car navigation, body electronics and telecommunications.
