| Internet Intelligent Transport System (Internet ITS)
is technology that allows vehicle occupants to access the internet
anytime anywhere and use various unlimited information services, utilizing
mobile telecommunication technologies based on Internet Protocol version
6 (IPv6). This opens up a wealth of possibilities by enabling vehicle
occupants to freely access web-based services while on the road. Internet
ITS creates other benefits-with on-board electronic components wired
into the Internet, their performance can be constantly monitored from
a remote location. |
| |
| Japan is making important strides in this area. DENSO
has joined hands with public and private organizations to initiate
the Internet ITS Project (http://www.InternetITS.org/) that started
in April 2001. This project is aimed at establishing a common communication
infrastructure for ITS applications, thereby facilitating the development
of on-board ITS equipment and software. A number of Internet ITS pilot
programs have already started in Japan, the biggest involving 1,570
taxis in Nagoya, conducted from January through March 2002. DENSO
supplied on-board equipment for the program. By the end of 2002, an
Internet ITS Consortium will be established with a large number of
organizations including the Internet ITS Project members and covering
almost all business areas to realize the internet ITS and promote
putting it into the market. |
| |
| To establish the internet ITS, smoothly switching
the communication media (mobile phone, Dedicated Short Range Communication
(DSRC), or radio LAN) is required to allow secure access of the vehicles
to the internet anywhere. To perform the intercommunication between
the vehicles and the information centers, the vehicle side is required
to connect the body system LAN, control system LAN, and information
system LAN via gateway to an on-board server. |
| |
| DENSO has advanced technologies and expertise in
automotive components, electronics and telecommunications, all of
which are related to construct on-board architectures for realizing
the internet ITS, which DENSO believes leads the future automotive
industry. |
