Teaching how to Make Handicrafts 13 Apr. 2008

The main objective was to motivate low-income people in the community with children between the ages of 10 to 16 and adults by teaching them how to make handicrafts and transform a hobby activity into an alternative family income, and at the same time, to promote a better awareness about the environment in their neighborhood.
The handicrafts are glass dishes, cups, trays and pots applying decoupage technique, an art of decorating simple objects by gluing colored paper cutouts onto them in combination with special paint effects, gold leaf, etc., sealed with varnish in each layer. Once the handicrafts are made with good quality, they can make a profit, and we encouraged the participants to use selective waste collection for subsequent use of recyclable material. This workshop provides an action for sustainable development.

This workshop helped families to find ways to increase their income, improve their self-esteem, and enjoy their leisure time by making crafts.
