Global dialog in Europe

DENSO has frequent dialogs with various stakeholders in the process of promoting CSR activities, and uses the findings to discover new issues and enhance its initiatives. In this dialog, two CSR experts and representatives from DNEU*1 and DMHU*2 talked about DENSO’s CSR activities from external and internal perspectives regarding their strengths and weaknesses and what the experts expect DENSO to do in the future. This dialog took place in Europe, where there are many progressive examples of CSR initiatives.

Report on Global Dialog in Eurpe

Importance of openly receiving diverse opinions and deepening dialog via site tours

In undertaking DENSO’s CSR activities, the Company seeks to draw on a wide range of opinions and proposals from a diverse group of stakeholders and has held open public dialogs annually since fiscal 2004. External viewpoints have been very helpful in the discovery of new issues and the selection of important initiatives. These dialogs include not only the exchange of ideas and the presentation of reports but also visits to plants, training facilities and related non-profit organizations (NPOs). This approach allows not only deeper inquiry but also the active discovery of new themes and conducting of dialogs.

In fiscal 2008, as themes for discussion, the important issues DENSO selected included environmental conservation, respecting associates and corporate citizenship. Reflecting the demands made by fiscal 2007 participants that the voices of employees be better heard, more time was set aside for an exchange of opinions with employees. One widely expressed opinion was that CSR activities should be made more visible outside the Company and that they should be expanded to include other companies and local communities. DENSO will endeavor to reflect these kinds of opinions and proposals in its future CSR activities.
