Currently, more than 80% of an automobile is recycled at the end of its life. To further advance recycling in Japan, the ‘Law Concerning Recycling Measures of End-of-life Vehicles’ became effective in January 2005. This law requires the owner of a vehicle to bear a portion of the burden for recycling costs. Continual efforts to promote the recycling of vehicles are maintained by setting successively higher targeted recycling rates, up to 95%, by 2015.
