Engine oil lubricates the engine for smooth movements and for cooling internal parts to avoid burnout. The oil becomes dirty with metal scrapings from inside the engine and burned bits of material after a long period of use. The oil filter removes these impurities and is made of a sophisticated combination of metal and fibers. Since it is difficult to separate the metal from the fibers, used oil filters were disposed of as industrial waste without recycling.
DENSO developed a new oil filter devised from a combination of metal and fibers, but moreover, created a special tool with which the metal and fibers can be easily separated. With these developments, the metal is collected and recycled as scrap, and only the dirty fibers are disposed of as industrial waste. In this way, DENSO contributes to reducing the amount of industrial waste from auto repair shops. |
