 Hiromu Okabe is vice chairman of DENSO Corporation, headquartered in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The Kariya location is the Worldwide Headquarters of DENSOs operations.

Okabe served as DENSOs president and CEO from June 1996 until June 2003 when he was appointed vice chairman.

In 1997, Okabe developed DENSO VISION 2005, a 10-year plan for DENSO companies around the world. He led DENSO to significant global growth with consolidated sales for the year ended March 31, 2003 totaled 2,332.8 billion yen (US$19 billion)Emore than 50 percent increase from the year ended March 31, 1997.

Okabe first was appointed to the Board of Directors in 1989 in charge of Corporate Planning, and in 1995, he was named managing director on the Board of Directors where he was in charge of the Engine Electrical Systems Product division.

Hiromu Okabe joined DENSO Corporation in 1960 and worked in the Accounting department before moving to Corporate Planning. He eventually rose to senior manager of that department. Okabe also served as head of the Engine Electrical Systems Product division.

In addition to his corporate activities, Okabe is famous for his strong reading habits (200 to 300 books per year), his writing abilities (he won Japans Prime Ministers Award in 1971 for a treatise on economics), and his near-professional skill at GoE(a traditional board game that in Japan attracts as much public interest as baseball does in North America).

Okabe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Nagoya University in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, in 1960.
