DENSO Announces Senior Management and Organizational Changes

Toshio Watanabe was named Corporate Auditor and Member of the Corporate AuditorsEBoard for DENSO Corporation in June 2003.


Watanabe has been with DENSO since graduating with a bachelors degree in Economics from Fukushima University, Fukushima, Japan. He started working in the Finance department at DENSO Corporation (formerly Nippondenso Co., Ltd.) in Kariya, Japan in 1972 and, in 1980, he moved to the United States to serve four years as treasurer for DENSO Sales California in Los Angeles, Calif.


Watanabe was in Japan as assistant manager of the finance department from 1984 to 1986, before returning to the United States to serve as treasurer from 1986 to 1991 at DENSO International America, Inc. in Southfield, Mich. Back to DENSO Corporation in Japan, Watanabe worked the next nine years as a general manager. He managed the Secretarial department for the first six years, and the Thermal Systems Procurement department for the remaining three.


In July 2000, Watanabe made his third move to the United States, to serve as Corporate Services executive vice president at DENSO International America, Inc., where he oversaw Corporate Planning; Legal; Environmental Safety and Health; Human Resources; Public Affairs; Facilities; General Affairs; Purchasing; Information Service department and Finance.


With the Japan Business Society of Detroit, Watanabe served two-year terms (2001 & 2002) as vice president of the Society and president of the Japan Business Society of Detroit Foundation.
