DENSO Wins Gold Medal at the 38th WorldSkills Competition

Tokyo - Shouji Watanabe, DENSO Corporation, won a gold medal in the category of Polymechanics/Automation at the 38th WorldSkills Competition. The WorldSkills Competition (formerly known as the "Skill Olympics") was held in Helsinki, Finland, May 25 to June 1.

In the Polymechanics/Automation category, competitors must be able to produce parts at 1 micrometer-level accuracy, and have an understanding of the making of metal parts, how to assemble machines and control technology.

"We recognize the dedication, effort, and commitment it takes to compete in the WorldSkills Competition," said Masatoshi Ano, senior managing director of DENSO Corporation. "And we are proud of every DENSO employee who participated in this year's event."

DENSO also earned a bronze medal in the category of Manufacturing Team Challenge (MTC). In the MTC category, each three-member team was required to produce an electric cart.

The WorldSkills competition was first held in Spain in 1950. This year, more than 650 young people from 38 countries tested their skills by competing in 39 key trade and technology categories.

DENSO has been sending its employees to the WorldSkills competition since 1971. In total, 55 DENSO employees have participated in the competition in 52 trades and technologies. To date, DENSO employees have won 40 medals, including 20 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals.
