DENSO to Build Additional Facility at Kota (Japan) Plant to Produce IC Wafers
Tokyo - DENSO Corporation is building an additional facility to produce integrated circuit (IC) wafers on the site of its Kota Plant in Kota, Nukata, Aichi. Construction is scheduled to start in June and should be completed by February 2006. Production is set to begin in June 2006. The Kota Plant produces IC and electronic control components.
DENSO will initially invest approximately 17 billion yen* (approximately US$160 million) in the new facility by fiscal year 2006 and will make additional investments as required based on demand for IC products. By fiscal 2010, the new facility will manufacture 10,000 8-inch IC wafers per month.
"The new facility will mainly manufacture IC wafers for automotive ECUs," said Susumu Harada, senior managing director in charge of DENSO's Electronic Systems Business Group. "This allows us to respond to the growing demand for ECU systems due to the increase in automobile production and installation of safety systems, such as air bags, and energy saving systems, including electric power steering."
