On June 13, Yoshimura Suzuki, sponsored by Denso, earned a victory at Suzuka Circuit, with a 50-second lead over 2nd place. Denso has been teamed with Yoshimura since 1978, and is their spark plug supplier. The spark plugs supplied this time were special Denso racing plugs, created exclusively for Yoshimura, using Denso's advanced technology.
The race was fought out over 52 laps in the rain, with tire selection causing the teams much deliberation.
The first rider, Sakai, changed from rain tires to slick tires in the 12th lap, and had risen to 2nd position by the changeover in the 24th lap. Aoki, the second rider, ran with slick tires, taking care to avoid slipping on the road, and at last caught Honda's Kameya in the 28th lap, to advance to top position. Aoki then went on to take the checkered flag, with an overwhelming 50-second margin between 1st and 2nd place.
This win has improved Yoshimura Suzuki's prospects of taking their second consecutive title in the Suzuka 8 Hour to be held on July 25.
With continuing solid results of 1st, 2nd and 1st between 2007 and 2009, the team is bound to come under fierce attack from other manufacturers in 2010, but we look forward to their continued success as top privateers.
