The JGTC 500 class has a maximum 500 HP restriction that guarantees a fiercely contested race every time. More than 360,000 spectators visited circuits to watch races in 2002. In its inaugural season, ultra-high performance overseas sports cars such as PORSCHE, FERRARI and McLaren competed for the title against Japanese assembly line sports cars such as the TOYOTA SUPRA, HONDA NSX and NISSAN SKYLINE GTR, but in recent years the three Japanese manufacturers have consistently dominated the series. According to the unique JGTC regulations, two drivers have to take turns at the wheel of each car during the 300km to 500km long race.
